A brief history of the Union Pacific Geneva Subdivision:

02/06/22

This simple through girder bridge crosses IL-31 (1st Street) on the south side of Geneva.
Built in 1912, the bridge features a single through plate girder span, set onto stone and concrete abutments.
Bridges like these are common to cross roads and small creeks, due to the durability and ease of construction.
This bridge will be replaced with a modern three track structure in the coming years to help with Metra operations. Anticipated construction date for the bridge has continued to be pushed back.

The author has ranked this bridge as being locally significant, due to the old age.
